Grace and peace be with you all, in Jesus our Savior!
What a great week of weather for a change. I know it hasn't been the most pleasant for some of you as a flu bug is making its rounds. God grant you healing and a speedy recovery.
Rose Marie and I will be traveling to Milwaukee tomorrow to attend the memorial service for Adeline Farrington on Saturday. Adeline and her departed parents, Axel & Clara Engnes were among the nucleus that formed Grace Lutheran some 65 years ago.
A week from Saturday, on March 13 we will have a movie night here at the church. We will start with pizza and snacks at 6:00pm. Please use the sign-up sheet that will be out on Sunday to let me know how much pizza to order. If you can't be with us Sunday and wish to attend the movie send me an email. You might bring a light snack to share with the pizza. We will have a free will offering to cover the cost of the pizza. The movie that we will show is titled, "No Greater Love." It is rated PG for thematic content. Although I haven't seen the movie some of you have and have said it is very good. Great Christian content and emphasis. The reviews are liken it to the movie "Fireproof" which we showed a while back here at church. Everyone is welcome to join us, guests and visitors are always welcome.
Sunday's service is a communion service. I suggest coming a few minutes early and reviewing the Q & A on page 156 of the hymnal, Personal Preparation for Holy Communion. Our service theme will be: In spite of our sinfulness God offers us salvation and deliverance. Our sermon will center on Jesus trial before the council of elders using Luke 22:63-71. The choir will sing, "Deep Were His Wounds." And the children will also sing, "No One Loves Me More Than Jesus." I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
Once again, I thank you for your kindness in remembering the Gospel ministry in the Ukraine. To date, your offerings have totaled over 1,700.00, which has been sent and acknowledged by Rev. Schroeder. Shortly after Easter, he is personally taking these offerings, together with other offerings he has received, to the churches in the Ukraine.
May God bless your weekend.
"In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you. I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation." 2 Cor 6:2

Adeline Farrington, a charter member of our congregation, passed away on Tuesday. The family will have her body cremated. There will be a funeral service in Milwaukee on Saturday, March 6. Then, sometime this summer there will be a service here in Oskaloosa.
Sunday is the second Sunday in Lent. Our worship theme will be; salvation though our Savior's sacrifice is rejected by many. The sermon text is Peter's denial of our Lord, taken from Luke's gospel. I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.
The Youth Group activity, which was canceled last Sunday due to the weather, will be held this Sunday evening at the Criles. It will be a movie night beginning at 5:30pm.
This week, I received a letter, pictures, and additional information from Rev. Horpynchuk of the Ukrainian Lutheran Church. He wished to thank our congregation for their offerings, prayers, and support. As bleak as the political picture is there, and the devastating financial situation they find themselves in, he is comforted and encouraged to know people are thinking of them and offering their support. Please consider dropping a dollar, or five, or more into our offering box each week. After Sunday's offering is collected Marvin will send this month's total to Rev. Schroeder. To date, over 10,000.00 dollars has been raised, of which we contributed over 1,600.00. Thank you!

Dear Pastor Neuman and Brother Marvin Van Haften,
I have learned from Pastor Neal Schroeder about a very generous gift to the Barnabas Project from you. We appreciate it very much. Ukrainian Lutheran Church is one of the largest church bodies of our fellwoship in Europe and it is in a very difficult situation as our support declined rapidly and Ukrainian economy is in the worst condition in Europe now. Results of recent Presidential elections, as some experts say, may cause shrinking of religious freedom in our country. We hope and pray it does not happen. Yet we know the Lord is loving us, and He has expressed his love through your congregation. We continue to preach the Word and administer the Sacraments whatever happens around us but what a joy bring such news that we are not forgotten and that we are not alone but have faithful brothers and sisters in Christ! Thank you very much!
Have a blessed Lenten Season!

Grace and Peace be with you all, in Jesus our Savior!
I hope this greeting finds you in good spirits as we wait for yet another batch of snow and wind coming at us this weekend. Yet in all things God works only for our good, even through nasty winters.
Lord willing we will be able to have good travel for our worship service on Sunday. On Saturday Rose Marie and I are invited to go to Cedar Rapids for a party hosted by Tom and Tammy Schmidt. Tammy is Pastor Bruss' daughter who recently finished all her treatments for cancer. They wanted to have a special get-together for all those who showed so much support. Hopefully the roads will be good. Pastor Burss and his family have gone through a lot these past few years.
Sunday is Transfiguration Sunday. Jesus had taken his inner circle of disciples, Peter, James, and John up on a mountain and there was transfigured into his divine glory for a few brief moments. This happened shortly before the events of Holy Week. I would imagine that this sight certainly helped comfort the disciples for what would soon happen to our Lord. So its fitting that we celebrate this event prior to the start of the season of Lent.
Sunday's worship theme is, Jesus is revealed as the Lord of glory. Our sermon text is taken from Jn 5:31-47, The Scriptures Testify of Christ. On Sunday the children are prepared to sing for the service, as are the youth. We look forward to listening to them.
Next Wednesday, Ash Wednesday we begin our Lenten journey to Calvary's cross. We will have 6 midweek worship services on Wednesdays at 7:00pm. A fellowship time will follow each service, you may bring a snack to share.
Next week I will travel to Wausau, WI to be with my mother has she will have 3 stents placed into the arteries that are clogged. I thank you for your thoughts and prayers for my mother. I'm not sure how long I will be gone. Rose Marie will be here to help you get in contact with me if needed.
I look forward to seeing you Sunday.
"About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John, and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightening." Lk 9:28
God be with you.

Pastor

Grace and peace to you all!
I hope and pray that your week has been going well. I attended the Southern Conference Pastor's meeting on Monday and Tuesday. President Mark Zarling did a seminar on the subject of "Adiaphorons." Things that are neither commanded nor forbidden by God. Good conference!
I called by mother Monday evening to get an update on her surgery. She talked with the surgeon and got a number of her concerns answered and they set the date for the surgery to be on Thursday, February 18, She will not have open heart surgery but will have three stents put in.
The former would be too risky and all her doctors advised against that. She is in good spirits and wants to have it done. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.
Sunday will be a communion worship service. I once again suggest that you come a few minutes early, open the hymnal to page 156 and read through the questions and answers for; Personal Preparation For Holy Communion. Our worship theme will be: Jesus reveals himself as the holy Lord and moves people to follow him. The sermon will be taken from John 5:1-18 using the theme, "Jesus at the Pool of Bethesda."
I'm very encouraged by our private offerings for the Ukrainian Lutheran Church. With a major gift on Sunday, we have now sent 1,500.00 to support the gospel ministry in the Ukraine. Thank you very much! If you write out a check please write it out to: " Divine Peace Lutheran Church" ... or, "Barnabas Project" You will receive an acknowledgment of your gift.
I believe that the congregation will be addressed this Sunday as to our 2010 church budget/offerings/ etc. I have seen a copy of the Financial Handout and it's very informative and well done.
God's blessing on the rest of your week. I look forward to worshipping with you on Sunday.
