welssealGrace Evangelical Lutheran Church, a member of the Wiscsonsin Evangelical Lutheran Church (WELS) , is located in Oskaloosa, Iowa and is part of the Minnesota District's Southern Conference. Oskaloosa, Iowa is located at the intersection of Iowa highways 63, 92 and the new 4-lane highway 163 which comes from Des Moines, Iowa about 55 miles distant to the northwest.

 

WELS, characterized as theologically conservative, is the third largest Lutheran church body in America. WELS began in 1850 when three German pastors met in Milwaukee. Today, it has grown to over 1,200 congregations in North America. It has over 400,000 baptized members, which includes over 300,000 communicant members, served by over 1,000 pastors.

 

Grace Lutheran Church's membership comes from the surrounding areas and town of Pella, Sigourney, Keota, Centerville, Eddyville, Kirksville, What Cheer, Gibson, New Sharon and Lynnville in addition to Oskaloosa, which is centrally located for people. We have about 110 communicant members and 160 baptized members in our congregation with an average attendance between 75 and 110 member each Sunday.

 

ChurchEnteranceWELS is particularly focuses on its ministerial education and missions programs as is witnessed to by the Synod in Convention's strong support of these core elements of our work in Christ's Kingdom. We have 2 preparatory schools in Michigan Lutheran Seminary and Luther Preparatory School, alongside a 4 year college at New Ulm in Martin Luther College and finally our Wisconsin Seminary for training pastors.

 

Grace Lutheran Church holds its worship services at 9:00 AM on Sunday mornings, followed by Sunday School and Adult Bible Study at 10:00 AM. Church Choir practice then runs from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM. Services for Reformation, Thanksgiving, mid-week Advent, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, mid-week Lent, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter are also held according to set dates and times.
